Begin a round, right here.

Choose your practice and round size, then tap the dial once per recitation. Works in your browser, with no account or download.

Changing practice starts a new count.

Recitations per round

Changing round size keeps your total.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Opens a preview of this practice, with an option to add it in Japa 1.6 or later. The words and round size transfer; your browser count does not. If you install the app, return here and open the link again.

Total: 0 recitations

With the dial focused: Space, Enter or ↑ to count; ↓ to undo.

Your count stays in this tab and resets on reload. Nothing is saved or sent.

How the rosary is counted

A decade

Ten Hail Marys make a decade. Each decade is opened by the Our Father and closed by the Glory Be, while one of the mysteries is held in mind.

Five decades

Five decades (fifty Hail Marys) is one set of the rosary, and that is the round this counter offers by default. Choose 10 to count one decade at a time.

The Jesus Prayer

In the Eastern churches the same kind of counting is done on a prayer rope, often of fifty or a hundred knots, with the Jesus Prayer said once on each knot. It is in the menu above.

Forms of the rosary differ between communities and devotions. Follow the form you were taught; this counter only keeps the number.

Print it

The printable rosary decade guide has the three prayers in full, a ring of fifty to tick and the mysteries with their days, as a free PDF.

Each tap is one Hail Mary, with a haptic for every bead and an optional bell when the round is complete, so your attention can stay on the prayer.
Your rosary on your wrist
Count with a tap or the Digital Crown on Apple Watch, including when your phone is in another room. The Watch app is free.
Keep the words close
The Hail Mary, the Our Father, the Glory Be and the Jesus Prayer are in the collection, or save the prayer you return to in your own words.

Before you begin

Is this a guided rosary?

No. Japa is a counter with the prayer text in view. It does not lead you through the mysteries or announce each prayer; it keeps your count so you don't have to.

Can I pray the rosary on Apple Watch?

Yes. Japa's Apple Watch app is free and counts with a tap or the Digital Crown, with a haptic for each bead.

Is the rosary counter free?

Yes. Counting is unlimited and free on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and this browser counter is free too. You can save up to three practices for free.
