What Japa stores

Everything you create in Japa — your practices, their names, the words you write or paste, your daily goals, your counts, how long you practised and your history — is stored on your device, in the app’s own local database. Your appearance and language preferences are stored the same way.

If you turn on iCloud sync (off unless you turn it on, and part of Japa Lifetime), that same data is also kept in your own private iCloud database, so your other devices signed into the same Apple Account show the same practices and the same history. It goes to Apple’s iCloud under your Apple Account and Apple’s terms; it is never visible to us, and Japa has no server of its own to send it to. Turning sync off stops the mirroring; deleting the iCloud copy is done in iOS Settings under your Apple Account’s iCloud storage, like any app’s.

Japa’s widgets and its Live Activity read a copy of today’s summary — practice names, today’s counts, your streak — that the app keeps in a shared folder on the device for them. Nothing in that folder leaves the device.

What Japa sends

Nothing about you. Japa has no server, no account and no network code of its own. It cannot send your practices, your words, your counts, or anything else anywhere — with iCloud sync on, Apple’s own CloudKit carries your data between your devices through your private iCloud, and nowhere else.

The one exception is the App Store itself: if you buy Japa Lifetime, Apple’s own StoreKit talks to Apple to complete and verify the purchase. That conversation is between you and Apple; it carries nothing about your practices, and its result never leaves the device.

Purchases

Japa offers one optional purchase, Japa Lifetime, which saves an unlimited number of practices, opens your whole history and allows iCloud sync. It is handled entirely by the App Store.

Japa never sees your name, your Apple Account, your payment details or your purchase history. It asks the App Store one question — whether this device is entitled to Japa Lifetime — and the App Store answers on the device. Nothing about the purchase is sent to us or to anyone else, because there is nowhere to send it: Japa still has no server and no network code of its own.

Sharing

You can share a practice as a link, and your streak as a picture. Both happen only when you tap Share.

A shared practice becomes a japa.life/p#… link. The practice itself — its name, the words, its colour and its counts — is in the part after the #, and that part is never sent to the web server: browsers keep it in the address bar. So the words travel inside the link, and japa.life never receives them. The page that link opens reads the practice in your own browser, and whoever you send the link to can read it — treat it like any message.

A shared streak is a picture drawn on your device at the moment you share it. Saving it puts it in your photo library, which is the only reason Japa asks for photo access — it can add a picture and cannot read your library.

What Japa does not do

• No account, sign-in, or email address is ever requested.
• No analytics, crash reporting, or usage measurement.
• No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
• No tracking, and no data shared with any third party for any purpose.
• No location, contacts, microphone, or health data is accessed, and your photo library is never read — Japa can only add a card you chose to save.

This website

japa.life sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from anyone else — its fonts are served from this site. The dial at the top of the home page counts in your browser and forgets the count when you leave. The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, handles each request in order to deliver the page.

Backups

If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, your Japa data is included in that backup, under Apple’s terms and encryption rather than ours. Japa does not manage or read those backups.

Deleting your data

Deleting a practice inside Japa removes it and its recitation history from your device — and, with iCloud sync on, from your private iCloud and your other devices. Deleting the app removes everything Japa has stored on the device; the iCloud copy, if you made one, is yours to delete under your Apple Account.

Children

Japa is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, children included.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
