Morning gratitude

I have enough. I am enough. This day is enough.

Three plain sentences for the beginning of the day, written for this app. They belong to no tradition and are not scripture; they are here because a short thing said deliberately at the start of a day is a practice, whether or not anyone older said it first.

This text was written for Japa. It is not a traditional formula, and no tradition teaches it as one.

The count shown here is Japa's suggestion, not a rule of the tradition. Follow the form and number you were taught.

Not counted on beads

How many times

Japa suggests 21 times a day. Follow the number you were taught.

Japa counts this one without a mala: a plain daily number rather than a ring of beads, with the words kept in view while you say them. Counting is unlimited and free.

What the words say

The same word ends all three lines, and the repetition is the whole design: enough of things, enough of oneself, enough of the day. It is a claim about sufficiency rather than about abundance — not that there is plenty, but that what there is will do.

Where it comes from

Written for Japa. Affirmation practice of this kind descends from twentieth-century self-help and cognitive traditions rather than from any religious lineage, and this app does not present it as one.

How it is practised

Said on waking, aloud or silently. Twenty-one is an optional starting goal and nothing depends on it — change it, or count nothing at all.

Keep it, and count it every day.

Japa keeps this text beside a large, calm counter on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with a haptic for every bead and an optional bell at the end of each round. Counting is unlimited and free.
