The blessings are recited before lighting: three on the first night and two on subsequent nights. Only the first blessing is included here; follow your community’s practice.

Why communities differ
The first light is kindled on the evening that begins the first day, which a civil calendar dates to the evening before. The blessings differ slightly between rites, and the third — Sheheḥeyanu — is said only on the first night.
The day begins at sunset on the evening before the date shown.
